The CreamFAce Cup Final 2007

Here we are - the grand finale, the climax of the season... so while most of the country's attention is on some blokes kicking a ball around in North West London, those in the know are more interested in a spreadsheet in North Hertfordshire. For this is The CreamFAce Cup final and, despite a UEFA Cup-esque format change that means there are 9 teams contesting this final, there can be only one winner. There's an iPod Nano up for grabs and with the likes of Prediction Premiership Golden Boot norfolk and chance, 2006 beaten finalist Alex Coidan and our very own Bamathinaikos in the mix it promises to be an epic confrontation. Let battle commence!

Opinion is evenly split with an hour to go - 4 have gone for Chelsea, 4 for Man Utd and 1 set of predictions still to come (cutting it a little fine...) No-one's expecting many goals though - 6 of those predictions are 1-0 one way or another. But, as this is the final, it's not a simple as just predicting the score. Just like last year, our managers have also picked 4 potential goalscorers (2 from each side), and forecast the times of the first goal, free kick and corner, as well as the total number of yellow cards, red cards, corners, free kicks and substitutions. For each side. As well as who will win the toss...

0 mins:  It's time to kick off and we still haven't had any predictions from Thanks For Comin, so that's them out of the running before a ball is kicked. Man Utd win the toss which means that the first points go to Alex Coidan, Ashburton Groove, norfolk and chance, Will Pearl and Women Belong On Top. Also, everyone starts with 2 as they said there'd be no sendings off (and as yet there haven't been) and everyone except Ashburton Groove predicted something-nil as a scoreline, so a point each to them for the moment. All of which means that Alex Coidan, Will Pearl, Women Belong On Top and norfolk and chance take an early lead... but there's some way to go yet.
5 mins:  An early free kick to Chelsea and a corner to Man Utd has propelled Alex Coidan into an early 2 point lead on 8.
10 mins:  Man Utd's first free kick doesn't change the lead, but V Will Rock U! are now a bit behind the pace on 3, adrift by 2 points at the back of the pack.
15 mins:  Not much happening, although Rooney's just been caught offside. No change to our game...
20 mins:  The two teams are largely battling it out in midfield and pretty much cancelling each other out - probably the most predictable thing about this game. John Motson's just commented that this is the most boring 20 minutes he's seen all season...
25 mins:  A shot wide from Drogba, a lot of passing around... we should have put "Predict the Throw Ins" into the mix, it would have given me something else to count...
30 mins:  norfolk and chance has snuck into second with 7 points as he predicted 7 free kicks to Chelsea which they've now had. Only half an hour gone, though, so chances are he'll lose that point next time Paul Scholes puts his foot in.
35 mins:  There you go... Wes Brown's foul means that norfolk and chance return to joint second, on 6 points with Will Pearl and Women Belong On Top.
40 mins:  The game is potentially starting to pick up. Still nothing to score anyone any points though. Let's hope the next five minutes produce a goal.
HALF TIME:  norfolk and chance was obviously expecting an exceptionally free flowing game as he only predicted 5 free kicks to Man Utd, which they now have. As a result, the leaderboard at half time goes Alex Coidan (8), norfolk and chance (7), Will Pearl and Women Belong On Top (6), Ashburton Groove, Bamathinaikos and Nashy (5), V Will Rock U! (3). Let's hope it picks up in the second half, eh?
50 mins:  Arjen Robben's on for Joe Cole, which is bad luck for Ashburton Groove, Nashy, norfolk and chance, V Will Rock U!, Will Pearl and Women Belong on Top, all of whom had JC to score at 8 points per goal. Man Utd get their 6th free kick so norfolk and chance is back down to 6 points while Chelsea's 12th means an extra point to Alex Coidan.
55 mins:  Chelsea's first corner means 2 points for norfolk and chance. He's now just a point behind Alex Coidan and two clear of the chasing pack. He said 38 minutes, as did V Will Rock U! which means that V also gains 2 points and joins the other five pointers.
60 mins:  Finally the game's woken up. We've also had a yellow card for Paul Scholes (another point for V Will Rock U!) and Chelsea's 13th and 14th free kicks which means that Alex Coidan and norfolk and chance are tied at the top, and that Nashy picks up a point to take his total to 6.
65 mins:  Both sides go close, but no change to the scores yet... Man Utd have a free kick just outside the box... but Ronaldo's strike just hits the wall.
70 mins:  Wes Brown's taken out Robben, but after some physio attention he's alright. That took a while, so not much to report from the last five minutes.
75 mins:  Just as things were starting to get exciting the game's been sucked back into the midfield. No further points changes. Bo-ring.
80 mins:  We've had a drop ball, but we didn't ask anyone to predict those so no more points changes. This could be headed for extra time...
85 mins:  A yellow card for Makelele - Chelsea's first - means a point for Women Belong On Top. She moves up to 7 points, and into second.
FULL TIME:  Another yellow, this time for Nemanja Vidic, moves Women Belong On Top to joint first and Will Pearl into second. But as the game heads for extra time Man Utd's 4th corner means that norfolk and chance now lead on 9, followed by Alex Coidan and Women Belong On Top (8), Will Pearl (7), Bamathinaikos and V Will Rock U! (6) and Ashburton Groove and Nashy (5).

So, extra time then. A prediction of 1-1 AET moves norfolk and chance up to 12 points and he keeps his lead. Women Belong On Top (11) are now second with Will Pearl (10) in third. Nashy is now bringing up the rear, way down on 5 points. I think we need a goal...

95 mins:  Alan Smith comes on, which will please Ashburton Groove and V Will Rock You! who both have him down to score. Alex Coidan's hopes are dented as one of his scorers, Shaun Wright-Phillips, comes off for Kalou. Two Chelsea substitutions stretches norfolk and chance's lead to two points while Will Pearl moves up to joint second.
100 mins:  5 Man Utd corners mean that norfolk and chance drops a point but holds his lead. 6 Man Utd corners mean that Bamathinaikos picks up a point and joins Women Belong On Top and Will Pearl in joint second.
105 mins:  Giggs has a toe poke saved on the line by Cech, then Drogba goes close up the other end. norfolk and chance remain in the lead, but it's closer than close.
110 mins:  Arjen Robben goes back off, replaced by Ashley Cole. Alan Smith picks up a yellow and Man Utd get another free kick. It means norfolk and chance remain 12, with Alex Coidan and Women Belong On Top tied on 11.
115 mins:  A couple of Man Utd substitutions - it's norfolk and chance (13) from Women Belong On Top (12) and Alex Coidan (11).
116 mins:  GOAL! Didier Drogba potentially wins the game for Chelsea. That shakes up the table a bit... Alex Coidan is back in the lead (16), four points ahead of norfolk and chance (12) with Women Belong On Top (11) third.
AET:  And it's all over... Last year's beaten finalist, Alex Coidan, wins The CreamFAce Cup with 17 points from norfolk and chance with 12. Joint third were Women Belong On Top and Nashy on 10, followed by Bamathinaikos and V Will Rock U! (8), Will Pearl (7) and Ashburton Groove (6). Alex's prediction of Chelsea 1 Man Utd 0 in normal time got him a point, Chelsea 2 Man Utd 1 AET bagged him 3 while he also picked up 6 for being closest on the times of Chelsea's first free kick, Man Utd's first corner and Chelsea's first goal. Calling the toss the right way, predicting 3 Chelsea substitutions, getting the number of yellow cards (4 to Chelsea, 3 to Man Utd) and red cards (0 to either side) right plus correctly predicting 6 corners to Man Utd tied things up with 7 bonus points. Congratulations Alex!
