Prediction Premiership Week 35: froggobbler Wins Prediction Premiership 20007/08
(May 11, 2008)
He left his run late, only hitting the front last week, but it was timed to perfection -
froggobbler has won the third Prediction Premiership title (and £100) after the most exciting run-in yet.
SUFFOLK 'N' GOOD............... stole second place (£50) with an outstanding final week involving goals from Downing and Lescott (improving on his 5th placing last year). All of which left
Juande they'll learn how to defend! trailing in third (£25), which must be a disappointment after leading the table pretty much every week between November and April.
It will be no great surprise to anyone that the most predictable team of the season (according to you, the loyal PTS members) was poor little Derby County, from whom most of us managed to pick up at least 3 points each week, simply by putting them down to lose. Close behind them on the predictability rankings - although for completely opposite reasons - were Manchester United and Chelsea. After being second-least predictable team in 05/06 and 06/07, Middlesbrough made it three years of confusing form, this time coming out overall as the team that members scored fewest points from. They were followed by Tottenham Hotspur, who had a surprisingly bad start to the season, then got their act together once people started to predict them to lose, only to hit a dodgy patch again once people woke up to the fact that Ramos was turning things around.
Our Golden Boot trophy this year goes to
Juande they'll learn how to defend! with 180 points, after a masterful display of how to play the game. Mind you, that didn't stop last year's winner,
SUFFOLK 'N' GOOD............... almost nicking that off him in the final week as well. The debate continues to rage over how best to pick your goalscorers... we're not going to tell you that, but we can tell you that if you'd picked five players and stuck with them all season then the five players to pick would have been Martin Laursen (48 points), Joleon Lescott (45 points), Stewart Downing (44 points), Sebastian Larsson (36 points) and James Harper (34 points). That's a total of 207 points - 13 points fewer than last season and 37 points fewer than 05/06, which either means the goals are getting spread around a bit more, or we're making the game harder...
A quick final mention for the winner of the last Manager of the Month -
CalConJor Golden Boys - a killer combination of Downing, Lescott and Alves delivering that title...
The FAntasy Cup final is next weekend, and then it's on to Euro 2008... England may not have made it, but we're going to be adding some PTS spice to the competition with the first ever EuroPredictTheScore... watch out for an announcement next week. Of course, Prediction Premiership will be back in August, along with The FAntasy Cup and, if all goes to plan, a Champions League game...
All that's left is to again thank all of our members, old and new - we've said it before so I'll copy and paste it in here - we'd look a bit pathetic without you coming back every week, making your predictions and winning our prizes. Tell your friends - and we'll see you soon. Every Game Counts!
